LENA'S SEVEN-MONTH UPDATE
by Mom
May 15, 2008
The Stats:
Lena now weighs 15lbs, 3oz, is 25 inches long, and her head circumference is 17 inches. No percentiles -- since this was sort of an out-of-cycle weigh-in -- but the doctor was happy with her growth.
Developments:
Lena has finally started on the wonderful adventure of mushed fruits and vegetables. So far she has only tried pears and sweet potatoes (in addition to her regular rice cereal), but hopefully she will take a liking to them. So far, she hasn’t eaten more than half of a stage 1 jar. I had to let daycare try feeding her the new foods since she is still reluctant to take solids from me. Evenings are so chaotic, it’s hard to find the time and patience to start new foods with her, although hopefully once she warms up to the idea I can feed her mush in her highchair while Eli is eating his dinner.
Lena’s newest trick is nodding her head. She hasn’t figured out the concept of ‘yes’ yet, but she thinks it is fun to nod all the same. She has discovered the joys of the jumperoo, which is great since she has always loved to stand up, and she is happy in the kitchen doorway while I get a few things done. She also has started dancing. Really, I’m not totally exaggerating. If she hears music she will wiggle from side to side fairly rhythmically and sometimes move her feet. If she has any dancing abilities at all, it is certainly not genetic.
Adventures:
This month, her 7- month check-up focused more on her minor maladies. Her cold apparently turned into an ear infection and her diaper rash and skin rashes did not clear up with the last round of prescription creams. We now have a round of antibiotics for her ear infection (which she is VERY reluctant to take and quite good at avoiding), as well as a $200 tube of diaper cream (I kid you not – we might as well gold-plate her bum) and the recommendation to keep every square inch of her smeared with Vaseline at all times.
Next month:
Trips to Boston and New Hampshire!
